Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Bjelovar-Bilogora County is one of the oldest sacred monuments in the region. Research has shown that the building was created in several phases, from the early Middle Ages to the Baroque, with a special emphasis on the Romanesque-Gothic and Baroque layers. The church underwent significant changes after a fire between 1715 and 1720, when its interior was completely destroyed. It was renovated in the Baroque style, and then it received a rich inventory, including Baroque altars, a pulpit and a Rococo organ, which are the main elements of the church interior.
In 2015, the Croatian Restoration Institute began extensive conservation and restoration of the wooden inventory. So far, the key parts have been restored, including the altarpieces on the altars of St. John the Baptist and the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as the altarpiece from the altar of the Adoration of the Kings. Along with the restoration of the wooden elements, considerable attention was paid to the organ case, which was restored to its original state in order to preserve its Rococo features. The church is also important for the preservation of cultural heritage, which bears witness to different styles and phases throughout the centuries, thus becoming an indispensable part of the historical and cultural image of the region.
