On the initiative of local equestrian associations, we connected with the international equestrian tourism association ENGEA (Ente Nazionale Guide Equestri Ambientali), based in Italy, which carries out its activities through twenty regional branches, associations, tourist rural and educational farms, voluntary organizations and more than 30,000 members operating in seven European countries. In the further development of the project, the first branch of the Italian ENGEA in Croatia was founded, ENGEA Croatia with headquarters in Veliko Trojstvo, which allowed us to continue working on the planning, routing and certification of equestrian trails. With the knowledge, expertise and international standards of our colleagues from Italy, the enormous work of marking, tracing and finally certifying the first equestrian tourist trail in Croatia, the 90 km long Bilogora Equestrian Tourist Trail was completed. Bjelovar-Bilogora County was thus the first in Croatia to receive an internationally certified equestrian tourist trail according to European standards and quality norms.
The scope of work of ENGEA Croatia is planning, designing, routing and certifying equestrian trails, training and lifelong professional education of equestrian guides, as well as supervision of the work of equestrian guides and maintenance of the quality of trails on the territory of the Republic of Croatia. The scope of work is carried out in cooperation with ENGEA Italy, an association that has been operating in Italy since 1997 and deals with the same activities as ENGEA Croatia, for which it holds the internationally recognized ISO 9001/2015 certificate. Engea Croatia is also a member of the Adventure Tourism Association at the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK).
Based on the agreement protocol between the two associations, ENGEA’s instructors transfer experience, knowledge and train future Croatian guides and instructors, as well as verify and certify equestrian trails. The knowledge, standards and professionalism in equestrian tourism, which are proven by certificates, are accepted by many European travel agencies when selling equestrian tourism packages as a reliable and proven means of quality. ENGEA Croatia is the only organization in Croatia that possesses the knowledge, skills and authorization of the international organization ENGEA GROUP based in Italy for the education of equestrian tourist guides and companions, as well as the tracing and certification of equestrian trails.
