Orthodox Church of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council Daruvar

Pravoslavna crkva Daruvar 001

The construction of the church began in 1749 and was completed in 1756. The church has an elongated rectangular shape on the outside, with an eight-sided altar apse supported by two buttresses, extending from the foundation to the roof cornice. The spacious nave of the church is reinforced with five massive arches, through which iron braces pass, and between the arches there is a baroque vault. The arches rest on the walls and form pilasters on the outside, creating harmonious, symmetrical parts between which simple semi-circular arched windows are placed.

On the west side of the church rises an impressive bell tower 36 meters high, below which is the main entrance. The top of the bell tower has a richly decorated wrought iron cross, 265 cm high, which was gilded in 1894. Opposite the main entrance, on the elevated part of the church that extends to the triumphal arch, there is an iconostasis with 42 icons, which were painted in 1793 by an unknown artist. The icons are skillfully placed in the wooden architecture, arranged in five horizontal fields.

On 28 April 2005, the church was officially registered in the Register of Cultural Properties of the Republic of Croatia and enjoys the status of a protected cultural asset.
