Pivovara Daruvar brewery is certainly one of the most significant symbols of this city and its rich tradition. It was founded as far back as 1840 on the estate of Count Janković, and since it has been operating in the same place since its foundation until today, it is reputed to be the oldest brewery in Croatia, unique in its method of beer production according to traditional Czech technology. The story of Staročeško (Old Bohemian) begins in 1893, when this brand began to be produced in what was then the Daruvar brewery. The first Old Bohemian beer was Zimsko (Winter), it was poured from a wooden barrel and produced according to the recipe of the Czech settlers of the Daruvar area. After Zimsko, Old Bohemian began to be used as a name for other types of beer.

The Daruvar brewery, founded in 1840, is actually the home of Old Bohemian beer, which began to be produced in 1893. Brand 5thElement, which was created in 2014, contributes to the craft beer scene of Daruvar Brewery. Inspired by the four basic ingredients of beer (hops, malt, water and yeast), the 5th Element represents those ingredients and, through the elements of fire, water, air and earth, it adds a fifth one – love. For visitors, they offer different Beer Stories programs adapted to the interests and intensity of the experience. From the basic program with a tour of the brewery and beer tasting to intensive two-day tourist programs. One-day programs such as Craft – the Common Element, which combines a tour of the brewery with a story about cheese, craft beer and chocolate cake, and the Pilsner program, which includes a tour of the brewery, a lecture on beer culture, tasting of autochthonous beer scones and a special beer dinner prepared by top chefs from Daruvar spa.
