The Romany ethno-house of autochthonous Croatian Roma Lovars, located in the village of Maglenča, is a unique tourist and cultural facility. It offers a completely authentic experience of getting to know the unknown Roma history, traditions, language and customs, which are an inseparable part of the rich Croatian heritage. At the entrance to the property, a symbolic signpost indicates directions to the big European cities where the Roma are still looking for their place under the sun, while the entrance to the house faces east. In front of the entrance is an apple tree, which symbolizes fertility and family well-being.
The hosts of the Romany House, Goran and Slađana Đurđević, expertly and very passionately share the story of tradition, their relationship and marriage, colorful Roma customs and the history of this area. Visitors can taste the specialties of traditional Roma cuisine and buy lavender products that are grown on their own plantations around the house. Also, the house offers the possibility of tasting the products of local family-run farms from the Veliko Trojstvo.
The Romany House is also available for rent for various types of outdoor and indoor events, including barbecue areas, presentations, educations and round tables. In addition, the Romany House is one of the Horses Welcome points within the well-known tourist project Explore the Bjelovar-Bilogora Area on Horseback. The project won the Golden Charter at the national Sunflower Rural Tourism ceremony in 2016, and the Romany House received a special award for its contribution.
