Dioš Castle (hung. diós = walnut) is one of the most recent Slavonian castles, located on the eponymous hill, about 7 km north of Daruvar, near the municipality of Končanica. When it was built in 1904, Dioš Castle was the most beautiful and most expensive building in the entire area.
It was built in 1904 by the then owners of the Daruvar manor – Alajoš von Tüköry and his wife Paula, born Falkenberg – for their daughter Maria. Paula, who ordered the construction, demanded that the castle should not give the impression of a summer house or a hunting lodge, but rather of a manor house. The blueprint for the construction of the castle was drawn up by Professor Šanady from the University of Budapest, and the work was carried out by local craftsmen and workers. At that time, it was the most beautiful and most expensive building in the entire area. The rich architecture of the castle, the interior rooms, the harmony of the exterior elements make the building rich and beautiful, and it perfectly blends into the surrounding environment. In its hundred years of existence, it changed several owners and served different needs. Since 1995, Maria’s Dioš Manor has been owned again by the Croatian Salesian Provincial from Zagreb.
